This is downriver:
"Downriver" is the unofficial name for suburbs of Detroit, Michigan that are located to the south of the city – "down the (Detroit) River." The name derives from the fact that the Detroit River, after running nearly east-west along the banks of Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, then bends to flow largely most north-south before emptying into Lake Erie. Communities to the south of the city can thus be accessed by traveling "down" (south) along the waterway.
The Downriver area is known for its large number of people of Southern origin; indeed, traces of the Southern accent are preserved by many residents. Many work in blue-collar industries, particularly for Ford Motor Company, which has a large industrial complex in nearby Dearborn and numerous other area plants. Downriver communities include:
* Allen Park
* Brownstown
* Ecorse
* Flat Rock
* Gibraltar
* Grosse Ile
* Lincoln Park
* Melvindale
* River Rouge
* Riverview
* Southgate
* Taylor
* Trenton
* Woodhaven
* Wyandotte
